Late Night Something.
Born of a desire to provide some sort of subscription service for his fans, Matthew Good has been trying out various services online to record podcasts. It all began as an idea he had to create a sort of paid subscription area for his website, a means of creating something more exclusive and tangible for his fans — something beyond the online presence he’s maintained for years.
So he’s been testing out various services and came across Buzzsprout, a site to which he can upload various materials but not make them exclusive to certain visitors — without a way to use it so that only the paying members could get the exclusive content, it’s not going to be the service he chooses. But something great has happened: he’s decided to keep the account and post a podcast from time to time based on whatever is going through his mind.
He’s posted an episode now, beginning with him talking about what’s going on with him lately, and then he breaks out a bunch of old demos and songs that he has lying around and plays them for us, giving their stories like the most amazing radio show I’ve ever heard. Listen here, and bookmark the site to return.
And as if you needed any more incentive to check this out, he’s currently playing the original recorded version of “Can’t Get Shot In The Back (If You Don’t Run)” that was never featured on any record — it was streamed very briefly on his website in the weeks leading up to the release of White Light Rock And Roll Review, his second solo album from 2004. He’s offered for download other versions of this song before, but this is the one that trumps them all. This is my personal recommendation to you.
