It wasn’t that long ago that my little brother approached me about doing some recording… he’s a gifted guitar and bass player, and I hadn’t really tried to get any recording done since finally getting the software installed; I still wasn’t sure I had licked the issue I was getting with the sound card.

Anyway, tonight was an interesting session, cos after we finally got the guitars tuned and good levels on the mix, I starting him rolling and left the room for a few minutes. He recorded random bass riffs and bits for about five minutes before I came back in and stopped the roll. We sat to listen to the five minutes, and after the first 45 seconds I stopped it and told him we needed to work with what we heard.

Forty-five seconds, and he had come up with a bass riff that was just amazing, and matched almost perfectly a song I had already been working on. We lost the next four hours very quickly to writing and honing the riff and recorded the bass takes in the end. I will post the demo as soon as I add guitars to it.
