My daughter the lifesaver.

May 31, 2009

Erica broke my heart today. We had just come in from climbing trees outside when I got to speak to Nicole, calling me for a few minutes break in her busy schedule in Alberta. The distance has been a terrible strain on me, and when I had to say goodbye and hung up, I began to tear up in spite of myself.

Erica came over to me, embracing and consoling me. “Put away those tears,” she said. I explained to her that I missed Nicole a lot, and apologize for being sad. “I know,” she replied. “I miss Nicole, too. But she’s singing.”

“I know, sweetheart. I’m sorry for being sad,” I told her. “But thank you for making me feel better.”

“When you’re sad, I always make you feel better.”

I told her I would try not to be sad anymore, but I don’t know how to tell her that I don’t know how.

Commitment to a joke.

May 28, 2009

Bobby
I went to [my boss's] apartment for a minute tonight.

Nicole
Oh really? Why?

Bobby
You remember at that pub I was joking about being lonely and going over and bothering him? I grabbed one of Erica’s board games and went over there, knocked on his door.

He opened it, and I was all, “hey, buddy! I’ve got Disney Princess Yahtzee!”

Nicole
Hahahaha that’s awesome! What did he say?

Bobby
He just laughed. So I said, “no? Some other time then!” and came back home.

Outsourcing.

I don’t know what’s better: the idea of Ze Frank making regular videos for the Internet again, or that he actually paid the $50.00. You be the judge.

Daily beard.

May 26, 2009

Twenty-six days down, five to go.

There are only five days left in the Mike Playoff Beard Challenge, and I could use your help. My team, The Beardos, is in third place but not trailing by very much. At the time is this posting, there are less than 100 votes between us and taking first place.

I’ve been going crazy for twenty-six days, and you can see my progress with this link. From humble beginnings at the start of May to just this evening, I’ve been growing for the cause. Your vote would only take a moment, but it would be a huge help. You can cast one vote per each of the five remaining days, and your five votes could make all the difference. Please help!

Young Cardinals.

May 26, 2009

I cannot get enough of the new Alexisonfire single, Young Cardinals. The song is the first released from their pending release Old Crows / Young Cardinals which is due out June 23rd. And based on the strength of this first single, I’d say the record is going to be huge…

Fall Out Boy, performing their latest single, What A Catch, Donnie on the Today Show. Been ages since I’ve mentioned them, I know, but this is a good performance.

Chance meetings.

May 22, 2009

Chance meetings are very funny things sometimes. My friends and I play hackey-sack on our breaks at work, and this afternoon there was this random dude who came flying up on a bike just to join us. He then spent the next 15 minutes putting on a clinic and showing us the most amazing hacking display I’ve ever seen.

And then this evening Erica and I went for a walk and she made friends with two different dogs – named Bella and Patches, respectively – and a woman around the corner named Marita with a huge garden. It’s so funny the kind of draw she and the sport of hackey-sack really are.
