Fragment 36.

February 29, 2008

I know not what to do
my mind is reft:
is song’s gift best?
is love’s gift loveliest?
I know not what to do,
now sleep has pressed
weight on your eyelids.
Shall I break your rest,
devouring, eager?
is love’s gift best?
nay, song’s the loveliest:
yet were you lost,
what rapture
could I take from song?
what song were left?

- Hilda Doolittle

Silverchair - Across The Night

I was skimming along Youtube and found this video… I must’ve been living in some kind of bubble, cos I didn’t even realize that I didn’t know that Silverchair had made music videos since The Greatest View back in 2002.

Anyway, a lot of people didn’t fully appreciate the new direction these three boys from Australia took with Diorama, and with next to no promotion due to singer/guitarist Daniel Johns constant illness, the band and album were sort of set on the back burner. Which is a terrible shame, as it was then that they really started spreading their wings…

VIRV.tv

The hottest new music application on the net? Sure freakin’ seems like it… I’ve only just discovered this, but the according to the website…

“VIRV is a free, revolutionary indie music television channel on the net. Only on VIRV will you find a non-stop playlist packed with your favorite indie music videos by artists such as Bright Eyes, Of Montreal, Architecture in Helsinki, Fujiya & Miyagi and many more. It’s 100% fresh, hand-picked, Indie TV. 24 hours a day.”

With the only catch seeming to be the requirement of the RayV plug-in, this seems like a great way to watch music videos on demand by your favourite indie artists, like Spoon, Of Montreal, Bright Eyes, and more. To see a complete playlist of scores of artists, click here.

The Mountain Goats - Get Lonely, Live at Rhino

I will rise up early and dress myself up nice
And I will leave the house and check the deadlock twice
And I will find a crowd and blend in for a minute
And I will try to find a little comfort in it

And I will get lonely
And gasp for air
And send your name off from my lips
Like a signal flare

And I will go downtown, stand in the shadows of the buildings
And button up my coat, trying to stay strong - spirit willing
And I will come back home, maybe call some friends
Maybe paint some pictures, it all depends

And I will get lonely
And gasp for air
And look up at the high windows
And see your face up there

Untitled

February 25, 2008

Ever have those days where it feels like you don’t have a friend in the world? Feel pulled in different directions. Made to absorb and deal with more than what feels like a fair or rational amount of stuff in life. No amount of sleep has any effect. I just feel drained.

Here’s a cool video, you might like it. I don’t have it in me to hype it or write about even music today. Bring me that new sunrise.

Why not?

February 24, 2008

Maybe it makes me lame, but I like to try to guess on the Oscars. I don’t have any outstanding wagers with anyone this year, so I decided to just go ahead and pick for fun.

Tons of people debate as to whether or not it’s helpful to have seen the movies in question before making your picks, as though it will grant you some sort of insight into the favourites. I mean, I suppose if you’re a hardcore film enthusiast - as are a few people I know - and you follow the Academy’s trends closely, you might have the slightest advantage, but I think more often than not that it’s anybody’s guess.

As it is, I’ve seen only a few of the nominees this year; I’ve never made it my prerogative to see movies nominated for the prize, at least, before the ceremonies. Based on tonight’s outcome, I’ll likely be checking out several movies over the next little while.

Anyway, here for amusement’s sake are the films I think will take the statue.
