This weekend I went with Nicole to see Hairspray, a jewel of modern cinema. Set in 1962, it stars John Travolta as Edna Turnblad, a housewife, laundress, and shut-in who hasn’t left her home in over a decade. In that time, she has gained weight and slowly receded into negative image until such a point that she rarely ever dresses in any more than her housecoat.
This movie chronicles her struggle with her self-esteem, and the triumph with which she slowly but surely learns to take a chance, get out into the world, and yes, love herself again. Oh, and some other people sing and dance and stuff… something about a TV show. Click here to watch the trailer.
Point of note: while we all know that John Travolta has long since established himself as a beloved dancer, many of you may not know that Christopher Walken, John’s film husband, is also quite the celebrated dancer himself. Enjoy the video below to see for yourself.
