New Music Issue

Ferocious Mopes
Lately I’ve found I’m really falling in love with this one band called Say Hi To Your Mom. Formed by Eric Elbogen in New York, in 2002, Say Hi To Your Mom has a minimalistic college sound, captured by a low-budget means on a computer. Elbogen also formed Euphobia Records as a means to release his music, and has since toured his albums, opening for the likes of Dirty On Purpose and Nada Surf.

Although it was originally an individual project, and solely Elbogen’s vision, the band expanded in 2005 with the addition of drummer Chris Egan III and keyboardist Jeff Shienkopf. Having only recently released their fourth album, Impeccable Blahs, Say Hi To Your Mom are spending a lot of time on the road (including three visits here to Toronto since January).

You can listen to a few cuts from various albums on the bands’ Myspace page, or download songs from a number of places on the Internet (which all route back to the bands’ website). For your convenience, I’ve organized a handful of songs that I’ve found online below.

From Impeccable Blahs (2006)
Snowcones and Puppies
Sad, But Endearingly So
Angels and Darlas

From Ferocious Mopes (2005)
The Twenty-Second Century
The Forest Scares The Hell Out Of Me
Yeah, I’m In Love With An Android
Dimensions And Verticals

From Numbers & Mumbles (2003)
Super
Hooplas Involving Circus Tricks
Let’s Talk About Spaceships

From Discosadness (2002)
The Fritz
Blizzard

Have a listen, and let it all sink in. Say Hi To Your Mom has something for everyone, from the indie devouts to the emo kids to the lyric lovers. After that, head over to the bands’ official website and place an order by any one of numerous means (or, at the very least, throw a couple of dollars their way for the downloads on their donation page).

And if you’re not doing anything the next time they come to play Toronto, do you wanna go with me? I’m excellent company…

Kickass lyric of the day

Words can’t kill me
Well, I can’t even spell them
And the cadence of what she says is swell

Let’s talk about spaceships
Or anything except you and me, okay?
