If you’re listening, sing it back.

With my mind on my music, and my music on my mind
So I’ve been growing increasingly anxious waiting for the concert day to come along (2 more days!) and just looking all over the place for new music to listen to, anything fresh and cool to help the time go by.

In addition, I’ve been looking very forward to new music from bands like Institute (though it appears as though they’re this close to breaking up), Silverchair, Brand New, and The Ataris, so it’s seemed like an especially long wait. Here’s also hoping Matthew Good sticks to his trend of late of releasing a new album each year.

I’m currently downloading a couple of tracks off of The Hush Sound’s forthcoming album, Like Vines, due out June 6th (that’s right – 06.06.06) and think they’re pretty cool. No longer the opening act on the current Fall Out Boy tour, the Hush Sound are signed to Fueled By Ramen and Pete Wentz’s Decaydance labels.

And the other night, while coasting through channels on TV, I came along Pearl Jam’s Jeremy on MuchMoreMusic’s Retro program… and like, double-you tee eff? Maybe it’s just me, but the whole ‘retro’ stigma generates a mental image encapsulating bands and music very much unlike Pearl Jam. Jeremy is such an amazing song…

When I think retro, I think along the lines of Tears For Fears, Crowded House, and Soft Cell, and all those other wonderful 80’s new wave bands that you can only tolerate in moderation, or broadcast live on the radio Sunday nights from the retro bar.

And what’s up with Pearl Jam’s newest album anyway? Suddenly they don’t suck anymore? True, I’ve heard many an individual song over the years that has been very good, but their albums have been overly lackluster ever since 1993 when they had to release a follow-up to Ten. I admit, I’ve downloaded the Worldwide Suicide single, and concede that the band blew the roof off of Saturday Night Live a few short weeks ago, but all the same… I’m hesitant.

And so anyway, I’m off to listen to some more music. Keep a tune in your heart, people.

Kickass lyric of the day

Miles away
There’s hopeless smiles brighter than mine
And I need for you to come and go
Without the truth falling out

Old incisions, refusing to stay
Like the sun through the trees on a cloudy day

Silverchair, “Without You”
